The Pennsbury School District quickly found a new chief financial officer, but they will not be able to fill the key role before the approval of a 2026-2027 budget.

The school board voted last Thursday to hire Kimberly Steffy as the district’s new chief financial officer.

Steffy, who currently serves as the director of business services for the Methacton School District in Montgomery County, is returning to Pennsbury where she previously served as assistant business administrator.

According to the approved contract, Steffy will begin her new role Aug. 15.

The three-year contract, which runs through Aug. 15, 2029, includes a starting salary of $200,000 with annual 2 percent raises.

“I had a great call with Ms. Steffy earlier today,” Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith said. “She’s incredibly excited to come home and we’re very excited to welcome her home.”

Board member Dr. Jeannine Delwiche noted it will “be great to see [Steffy] back.”

Steffy will replace Michael Gorski, who departed last month after joining the district in October.

Gorski had been hired to replace CFO Chris Berdnik, who left last summer for a position with the Palisades School District.

Officials did not discuss the reasons for Gorski’s departure.

Gorski left the district as it prepares to break ground on a new high school and months before next school year’s budget is due.

The business office is being managed by interim lead Jean Gehring, the district’s assistant business administrator, with support from staff, officials said at the recent Finance Committee meeting.

Work on the 2026-2027 budget is underway and Smith said that the administration is “evaluating every line item.”

“We’re making adjustments not only due to some of the fiscal challenges we’re facing, but also due to enrollment and some additional costs you should be aware of and new costs, salary and benefit agreements,” Smith said.

In addition to the annual budget, the Pennsbury business office manages transportation, purchasing, payments, and the district print shop.

The board also took action on another administrative vacancy Thursday, hiring Danielle Leyrer as the district special education supervisor. Leyrer will earn an annual salary of $131,786.06.
