A fast-moving fire sparked by an e-bike battery damaged a home and injured a resident who scrambled to drag the burning vehicle outside.

The fire happened Friday at around 10 a.m. at a home on Aspen Lane in Bristol Township.

All residents managed to safely escape the burning structure, with several forced to flee through a second-floor window, Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said.

The homeowner suffered minor cuts and burns while dragging the e-bike out through a rear door. Once outside, the homeowner used a garden hose to extinguish burning furniture, but Dippolito noted the hose had little effect on the e-bike itself, which repeatedly reignited in the yard.

The home sustained heat and smoke damage, in addition to the destroyed furniture, Dippolito said.

According to the owner of the e-bike, the vehicle’s battery had been replaced just a few days prior to the incident.
