A drive-thru window will be added to an under-construction Wawa in Middletown Township.
Earlier this week, the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors approved a revision to Wawa’s planned convenience store and gas station on East Lincoln Highway. Work on the site started earlier this year, but it has been paused as Wawa waited for approval for the plan.

Ed Murphy, the land development attorney for Wawa, said the update is a “minor” change for the plan.
The approved plans show a double-lane ordering area that will merge into one lane leading up to the drive-thru window attached to the roughly 5,000-square-foot store that will sit across from the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad building.
The new Wawa’s drive-thru window is part of the company’s effort to expand their use. A proposed Wawa on Lincoln Highway in Falls Township is among the locations where the company wants to build one.

The drive-thru window will offer a more limited menu than inside the store, a Wawa official said.
So far, only one Wawa, which is in Burlington County, New Jersey, has a drive-thru window added to the store. In January, Wawa opened an 1,800-square-foot standalone drive-thru only location earlier this year next to the existing Wawa convenience store with a gas station and the Rite Aid at the corner of West Trenton Avenue and Pine Grove Road in the Morrisville section of Falls Township.

The new Wawa in Middletown Township is planned to have its main entrance and exit along Lincoln Highway. A traffic signal will be added.
Murphy said the drive-thru lane and window plan revision will actually add a bit of green space to the site.
Before the supervisors voted on the change, the planning commission approved the drive-thru addition.
