Wawa has amended their plans for a proposed convenience store and gas station along Lincoln Highway in Falls Township.
Wawa officials presented their updated plans for the roughly 2-acre site at Fairless Hills Shopping Center at 500 Lincoln Highway in Falls Township before the Falls Township Planning Commission Tuesday evening. The company aims to construct a new 5,500-square-foot convenience store and gas station at the corner of Arleans Avenue and Lincoln Highway. The latest addition is a drive-thru window and two outdoor ordering kiosks.
The planners approved conditional use for the gas pumps, but denied the drive-thru plan under its current configuration over worries about traffic stacking. The planning commission is an advisory body.
Tuesday’s denial doesn’t have to be the end of Wawa’s drive-thru window plan. The company can update the plans or move them forward to the supervisors.
The drive-thru window plan was not proposed when Wawa first came before officials last year.
Wawa officials noted they altered the plans to include changes to the entrances and exits to improve safety, the addition a number of islands to separate the Wawa from the shopping center, creation of more green space, and altering the setback from Arleans Avenue from 75 feet to 100 feet, complying with township code.
If Wawa’s plans are approved, the company would tear down the building that houses Arosso, A Touch of Sicily Italian-style restaurant, which LevittownNow.com confirmed will move to another spot in the shopping center, and construct their store and gas station.
Last year, the Falls Township Board of Supervisors approved rezoning of the 2 acres where Wawa wants to built, but the final plans still need to be presented and approved.
Wawa recently opened an 1,800-square-foot drive-thru only location next to the existing Wawa convenience store with a gas station and the Rite Aid at the corner of West Trenton Avenue and Pine Grove Road in the Morrisville section of Falls Township in January. It was the company’s first standalone drive-thru and only one as of now.
Last December, the company added a drive-thru window to an existing store in Burlington County, New Jersey. The Lincoln Highway location would be the company’s second store with a drive-thru window on a traditional-style Wawa.
