A police officer is facing a number of charges after allegedly driving while intoxicated and being involved in a serious wreck last year.
According to court and public records reviewed by LevittownNow.com, part-time Tullytown Borough Officer William Michael Bresnahan IV, 29, of Falls Township’s Levittown section, was charged recently with two counts of DUI and a single count of criminal mischief. He was also charged with summary offenses of accidents causing damage to an attended vehicle, failure of stop and give information, careless driving, and operating a vehicle without a seat belt.

According to police, Bresnahan was ejected from his 2019 Toyota Tacoma when it smashed into a guard rail in the area of Tyburn Road and South Pennsylvania Avenue in Falls Township around 11:16 p.m. on Thursday, September 12. An investigation found that Bresnahan was operating his pickup truck at a high rate of speed while intoxicated, which led to him being unable to negotiate a curve in the road.
Bresnahan, who was off-duty at the time of the single-vehicle crash, was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in New Jersey for serious injuries to his head, back, and arm, according to court papers.
A police corporal told the investigating officer that Bresnahan smelled of alcoholic beverage at the scene.

While officers were at the scene of Bresnahan’s crash, another Falls Township officer had responded to the Puss-N-Boots Tavern on Trenton Road for a reported hit-and-run crash, police said.
In court papers, police wrote that Bresnahan was behind the wheel and struck a parked 2018 Nissan Rogue, causing damage, at the Falls Township bar.

A search warrant was obtained for Bresnahan’s medical records from the New Jersey hospital.
In November, the records were obtained and showed Bresnahan had a blood-alcohol content of .236 percent around the time of the Falls Township crash, police said.
At the time of the crash, Tullytown police identified the part-time, off-duty officer was involved in a crash and stated law enforcement from the Falls Township Police Department and Bucks County District Attorney’s Office serious crash task force were investigating.

Daniel Doyle, chief of the borough police department, confirmed to LevittownNow.com that Bresnahan was on administrative leave and declined further comment, citing it as a “personnel matter.”
Bresnahan was hired by Tullytown Borough Council in June 2019, according to public records.

Bresnahan was charged via summons and is set to be arraigned before the end of the month.
