Falls Township’s manager is resigning months after a new deal was offered as part of an effort to convince him to stay.

Township Manager Peter Gray has submitted his resignation that will be effective February 4.

The township said Gray has “expressed an interest in seeking other opportunities.”

“The Supervisors appreciate all that Pete has done for our township,” Supervisors Chair Jeff Dence said. “We are sorry to see Pete go and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”

Gray has been the township manager for the past 12 years and started in the community as finance director 20 years ago.

Gray had resigned in September but rescinded his notice after supervisors offered him a $5,000 per year pay increase that is retroactive to January. At the time, sources said members of the Board of Supervisors had persuaded him to stay.

Gray’s previous employment agreement was signed in January 2019 and paid him $147,366.66 per year with 30 days paid vacation and benefits, according to records obtained through a Right to Know request.

Matthew Takita, the township’s zoning officer and director of building, planning, and code enforcement, was hired in October and will fill some of Gray’s duties in the short term.

Falls Township will hire David Woglom of Robert B and Helen S. Meyner Center for the Study of State and Local Government to find a new township manager. Township Solicitor Mike Clarke said the candidates will be interviewed next month and could be hired by late February.
