A large crowd milled outside the Tullytown municipal building Tuesday night to show their support for the borough police department, which has come under fire recently following the tasering of a 14-year-old Bristol Township teen Joey Williams.

The event was attended by members of the Tullytown Police Department and lasted for about an hour. T-shirts, decals and mugs were sold in support of the town’s law enforcement officials. One dollar from every sale will go toward a fallen police officer fund.

One of the event’s three organizers, who requested to remain unnamed, said she was thrilled with the large turnout and support shown over the past weeks. A small rally held during he rain last week in support of Williams, who is black, ended with one supporter calling borough police “racist bigots.”

Tullytown fireman Joe Redner said the rally was “good for the community.” He added that Williams’ supporters were making a “big deal out of nothing.”

Redner’s comments echoed those made by several other residents.

Feasterville resident Norman Jacker said he came out to support the borough police department and his grandson, a borough policeman. He said he was pleased to see the large turnout.

Chief of Police Daniel Doyle thanked the crowd for the “overwhelming” support and lead the crowd in the  Pledge of Allegiance.

The tasering of Williams and accusations of police brutality continue to be investigated by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office and the FBI, who Doyle called in to assist.

“When the investigation is complete, it will reveal what really happened,” Doyle, who served as acting chief before being officially made the top cop in summer, told the crowd.

Mayor David Cutchineal said he could not comment on the investigation, but said the facts will come out and prove the officers innocent.
