Middletown Township responded early Saturday morning after an abandoned 9-1-1 call reported screaming at a Janney Terrace home.

At approximately 1:57 a.m., Middletown Township police officers arrived on the scene and were met by the homeowner and another man present in the house. Both individuals reported that a man – identified as Douglas Slemmer, 49, of Bensalem Township – had violently banged on their front door before forcing his way inside without permission, authorities said.

After managing to get Slemmer outside, he allegedly attempted to re-enter the home, leading to a physical altercation with the man at the home, police said.

Slemmer reportedly shouted obscenities at the two victims, police said.

As a result of the confrontation, the man sustained several abrasions and contusions to his face and head, as well as swollen knuckles, police said.

Slemmer served as a Bristol Township Police Department detective until late 2018 or early 2019, law enforcement sources said.

The Bristol Township Police Department hired Slemmer in 2001.

Slemmer was brought before on-call District Judge Daniel Finello and preliminarily arraigned on charges of criminal trespassing – entering a structure, simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct. He was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $50,000 bail and released Monday after posting $5,000 bail.
