Bristol Twp. School District Works Through Summer To Complete Upgrades

The Bristol Township School District completed a series of renovations at Neil A. Armstrong Middle School over the summer.

The work included new HVAC systems, LED lighting, flooring, ceilings and electrical improvements throughout the building. Contractors also installed new PECO electrical service, replaced ceilings, installed new light fixtures and completed extensive painting.

The district’s operations staff also played a big role in completing the work, led by Operations Manager Mike Cox.

There were upgrades made to 31 classrooms ahead of the 2026-2027 school year.

“We worked almost around the clock all summer long to bring this project across the finish line,” Cox told the school board at its August meeting. “A lot of behind-the-scenes work being done by our own staff, washing and waxing floors at night, wiping every bit of dust out of the computers and desks that were stored in the hallways during renovation.”

According to the district, the work included more than 1,000 feet of chilled- and hot-water piping, more than 2,000 feet of insulated supply ductwork and a new cooling tower with a concrete structural foundation.

The district’s electrical crew installed new switches, outlets and covers throughout the building, while the plumbing department installed new fixtures in the gang bathrooms.

Custodial staff worked to clean the school and prepare it for the return of students and staff, officials said.

The K-wing of the Wistar Road school received hallway updates, new ceilings and renovated and repainted classrooms.

Cox said the work at Armstrong is not finished, with additional renovations planned for future phases.

“I truly appreciate the efforts of Mr. Cox, our operations manager, and his hardworking crew for their considerable efforts in often challenging conditions this summer, all of which will result in a much improved school environment for our staff and students over at Armstrong Middle School,” Superintendent Michael Nitti said.

Armstrong was not the only district school to receive work over the summer.

At Benjamin Franklin Middle School, workers applied the final two coats of high-gloss varnish to the floor.

Storage sheds at the Harry S. Truman High School stadium were renovated with new floors, rafters, roof sheathing and shingles.

Cox also said air and water filters were replaced across the district’s schools.

Playground equipment at elementary schools was inspected and repaired as needed.

Over the summer, inspections of the district’s retention basins were completed, with all basins found to be compliant, Cox reported.

All district buildings also underwent deep cleaning before the new school year. The cleaning work included applying new floor surfaces, stripping and reapplying wax and wiping down, and disinfecting surfaces.

“Our buildings are deep cleaned for the upcoming year,” Cox said.

School Board President James Morgan thanked Cox and his staff for their work.

“Give your staff congratulations,” Morgan said.

Bristol Township students are scheduled to return to classrooms Tuesday, Sept. 8.
