A new location to get a bagel and breakfast could be coming to Middletown Township.

Manhattan Bagel has submitted a zoning submission to the township to open a location and add a drive-thru at the former Einstein Bros. Bagels in the Summit Square Shopping Center along the Newtown Bypass.
The chain bagel joint is asking for variances related to a drive-thru with a pass-by lane facing Newtown Bypass, a small increase to impervious service, and a slight decrease in parking spaces in the shopping center.
Under the proposal, drivers would enter the drive-thru near the building entrance and exit back into the shopping center between the building and Mt. Fuji Hibachi and Asian Bistro.

James Esposito, the township solicitor, said at this week’s Middletown Township Board of Supervisors meeting that municipal officials have concerns over the flow of traffic in the shopping center.
Manhattan Bagel already operates at a location in The Shoppes at Flowers Mill in Middletown and nearby in Lower Southampton, Northampton, and Upper Southampton townships.

Manhattan Bagel and Einstein Bros. Bagels are corporate family members. They are both owned by Panera Brands, which operates Panera Bread and Caribou Coffee. Einstein Bros. Bagels is also corporate siblings with Bruegger’s Bagels and Noah’s New York Bagels.
Einstein Bros. Bagels closed the Summit Square location in November 2022 after 15 years in the shopping center
A sign posted on the door to the bagel and coffee shop read: “Sorry. We’re permanently closed.”
