The art was created as part of the Words of Worth effort and the Ten Thousand Flowers Project.

The “Words of Worth” mural was designed to use the artistic efforts of the community to encourage kindness, connection, belonging, and self-worth across the elementary school.

The installation was completed over the course of a month through the hands-on work of students, staff members, parents, and school officials, who all joined in painting the floral design.

The goal is to “make sure that every student, everyone understands they have worth and value,” said Dan Emr, executive director at the nonprofit organization Worthwhile, while speaking to students at the event. “And so when you walk down this hallway, year after year or day after day, you’ll see those six words of worth reminding you that you are seen, that you are heard, that you are enough, you are unique, you are brave, and you are worthwhile.”

Emr attended the ceremony alongside Worthwhile representative Allegra Cressman. Worthwhile works to fight human trafficking and help people avoid falling into it.

The mural was led by artist Tim Gibson, the founder of the Ten Thousand Flowers Project.

Gibsonโ€™s goal is to bring communities together to construct a single mural measuring over a mile in length, containing 10,000 colorful flowers.

As part of his goal, Gibsonโ€™s artwork is divided like a giant jigsaw puzzle into hundreds of interconnected sections, with creation planned across more than 100 communities from Florida to Alaska.

Designed with simple artwork, the project allows individuals of any skill level to participate.

The school district shared appreciation to Gibson for guiding the artistic process and Eleanor Roosevelt PTO and PTO President Devina Golden for supporting the project.
