Robyn Briggs, a PennDOT spokesperson, told LevittownNow.com the bridge replacement project is expected to be completed in August 2022, but the reopening could come sooner if work is ahead of schedule.
The project was originally expected to be completed this spring.

The 86-year-old bridge that carried Hulmeville Avenue over the CSX and SEPTA West Trenton Line tracks was torn down during the reconstruction. It had been closed since it was found unsafe in May 2019.
On Wednesday, crews were busy at work building the new bridge over the railroad tracks. The large center structure of the span appeared to be in place over the tracks.

The former steel girder bridge that stood in Middletown Township and was bordered by Penndel Borough and Langhorne Manor Borough carried an average of 4,600 vehicles per a day before it was closed unexpectedly.
Prior to being closed in 2019, the state listed the bridge’s condition as “poor” and was already planning to replace it.
Since that time, traffic has been detoured over Comly Avenue, Bellevue Avenue (Route 413), and Lincoln Highway.

Briggs said PennDOT will start work in summer to improve the intersection of Old Lincoln Highway and Hulmeville Avenue near the bridge.
The new Hulmeville Avenue bridge will be named to commemorate U.S. Marine Corps Private First Class John Elton Candy, a resident of Middletown Township. Candy died on October 11, 1968 while serving in Vietnam.
