PennDOT is planning to replace the deteriorating Hulmeville Avenue bridge that crosses the CSX and SEPTA tracks.

The 86-year-old span that falls within Middletown and is bordered by Penndel and Langhorne Manor has been rated as being as being in “poor” condition. It is slated to be replaced before 2021.

At a press event last week, PennDOT official said they estimate the bridge replacement will cost about $4.7 million. Bids for the project are expected to open in late summer.

The 147-foot-long bridge carries about 4,600 vehicles per day, according to PennDOT data.

The information was included in the briefing where PennDOT officials said they plan to rehabilitate, reconstruct, and resurface more than 275 miles of state highways and improving 39 bridges across Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

Among the projects featured at the event was the massive Route 1 overhaul that stretches through the area.
