Demolition crews were clearing the way Thursday for the Levittown area’s newest grocery store.

Crews were taking down the 29,000-square-foot building that was part of the Verizon complex on 7843 New Falls Road across from Appletree Place in Bristol Township. The neighboring Verizon building will remain in and continue to be used by the telecom firm.

Verizon, which owned the seven-acre property, split the site into two lots. The property being cleared will be home to Lidl, the Germany-based grocery store chain, which will construct a 31,000-square-foot grocery store with 140 parking spaces.

The Lidl, which rhymes with “needle,” will have two entryways and exits along New Falls Road. One will include a traffic signal across from Appletree Place and the other will be a right in, right out access point a few hundred feet away.

There’s no opening date for the new store.
