The feedback regarding a possible ordinance against bamboo has been largely positive, according to Falls Township officials.

With that, the township made a motion to approve the ordinance – without many questions from board members.

The board, which first discussed the possible ordinance back in early April, said the law will allow for disclosure and education to new Falls residentsย regarding existing bamboo on their property, and a guide for maintenance for those who already have the plant.

The law would not prohibit homeowners from suing their neighbors if said neighbor’s bamboo damages their property.

“It’s a very attractive plant for many people, the problem is it grows way too fast, it’s very hard to keep in a location,” Chairman Bob Harvie said during a Tuesday night meeting. “While we cant force people that have current bamboo on their own properties to take it down, we can make sure they know they have to be very aggressive about how it’s maintained.”

According to Ecosystem Gardening, phyllostachys bamboo (the invasive kind) is one of the most hated plants in the world. The cost of managing bambooย plants is estimated at billions of dollars of taxpayer money every year.
