A well-respected Lower Makefield police detective is being mourned.
Detective Denise Siano, 45, passed away Sunday after a 10 year fight with breast cancer. She was a member of the department since 2002.

“Denise was a true fighter who treasured life, her family, and being a member of the Lower Makefield Police Department,” Chief Kenneth Coluzzi wrote in a statement. He added that Siano’s laughter, smile and friendly demeanor gave little indication of her serious cancer battle.
Siano made the rank of detective in 2010 and worked on the South-Central Bucks Special Response Team as a hostage negotiator, Coluzzi said. The chief said Siano's "calm, reassuring voice" was an asset during negotiations.
Siano was also known as an "accomplished" polygraph examiner, the chief said.
"She loved helping people."
Siano's viewing will take place 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at Galzerano’s Funeral Home on Bristol-Oxford Valley Road in Bristol Township. A service will be held Friday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church at the corner of Dorrance and Pond streets in Bristol Borough starting at 11 a.m. The detective will be buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem.
