The Bristol Township Police Department and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office launched the probe after receiving a cybertip through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

According to Bristol Township Chief of Police C.J. Winik, the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force alerted the department Tuesday regarding a suspected image of child sexual abuse material.

Winik said a forensic examination uncovered evidence suggesting a history of possessing such material spanning approximately 20 years.

Jayne served as an officer with the Bristol Township Police Department from 1989 until 2000. After his time in municipal enforcement, he worked as the security chief for the Bristol Township School District. He has since retired from that position, authorities said.

“We currently have no information that leads us to believe that there are any victims in Bristol Township, including in the schools,” a statement from police said.

“This is a deeply disturbing investigation, and there is no place for this in our society,” Winik said.

“This is a growing trend in our communities, and these actors need to be investigated and pursued relentlessly,” according to Winik.

The investigation is continuing, the chief said.

Jayne is charged with dissemination of photo and film of child sex acts/abuse, child sexual abuse material, and criminal use of a communication facility. Jayne was arraigned by District Judge David Chichilitti and bail was set at 10 percent of $50,000.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Ashley Landis at 267-812-3029 or via email at alandis180@bristolpd.org.

In addition to Bristol Township police and the Bucks County Detectives, task force investigators from the Northampton Township Police Department, Newtown Township Police Department, Lower Southampton Police Department, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office assisted. County Detective Eric Landamia and Bristol Township Detective Ashley Landis led the probe.
