Tullytown Borough Approves Plans For $25 Million Revamp Of Levittown Station

At a special meeting Tuesday evening, Tullytown Borough Council approved plans to rebuild the crumbling SEPTA Train Station in Levittown.

The current station, which is estimated to be more than 50 years old, has battled crumbling infrastructure, and confusing and unorganized traffic and parking for decades. The council, voted 5-0 to approve preliminary and final land development plans for a $25 million project that will help bring the station up to current times.

The project will see a new station building equipped with new platforms and track upgrades, a pedestrian overpass allowing Tullytown Borough residents to travel safely over the tracks, 70 new parking spaces with reconfigured traffic flow and green space, and completely redesigned traffic patterns joining it to bustling Route 13.

The plans, which have been modified consistently over the past year or so, have taken consideration from zoning and council members. Green spaces placed throughout the parking lot to the station will help manage stormwater, while traffic patterns leading to the station will help make the area safer for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The plans have also brought the station up to code for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The project was secured through a new transportation bill called Act 89, which according to Attorney Tom Hecker, has helped secure the $25 million needed for the project. Hecker called the project “very exciting” at Tuesday’s meeting.

The zoning hearing board for Tullytown approved half a dozen or so variances for the project over the last several months for buffer yards, building height, signs and off street parking.

According to Tullytown officials, the project is estimated to take about three and a half years to complete. Officials have also noted that borough hall renovations are ahead of schedule and are expected to be completed before the projected date of completion which was listed as July 12.
