At a special meeting on Monday evening, the Bristol Township School Board approved a deal to have a Montgomery County firm survey two district properties.

With a 8-0 vote, the board, with the exception of the absent Helen Cini, approved an agreement with ASH Associates of Flourtown to perform land surveying, infiltration testing, wetland delineation and title search for the Mary Devine Elementary School site in Croydon and the Lafayette Elementary School site near Lower Bucks Hospital.

The cost of the project is not exceed $37,225, officials said.

Mary Devine is eyed to be the the site of a potential new $37 million elementary school. The Lafayette site is being looked at as a secondary location if the Mary Devine site is unusable, Superintendent Dr. Sam Lee said.

Under the potential $152 million project, the district would replace the current nine elementary schools and replace them with three new, larger buildings.  Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School would close and Neil A. Armstrong and  the former Benjamin Franklin School would be renovated to for students. Harry S. Truman High School would not undergo any major work.

The project has been met with mixed reactions by Bristol Township taxpayers. At a packed community meeting in February, taxpayers asked that the district reconsider the project or put it up for referendum. The board reaffirmed at Monday’s meeting that the issue will not go up for referendum.
