The Bristol Borough waterfront was a busy scene Saturday evening after reports of boat incident.

Around 6:44 p.m., Bristol Borough crews received a report through 9-1-1 that a person swimming in the river was struggling.

Police arrived first and found no problem, which led to the fire companies and ambulance being recalled, according to Bristol Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack.

Minutes later at 6:58 p.m., an ambulance was called to the docks at the wharf for a report of a person with unknown injuries.

Firefighters were then dispatched at 7:02 p.m. for reports of a boat crash and a sinking vessel, Slack said.

Responders determined that the transom on a boat had failed, allowing water to flood into the craft in the river, Slack said.

“Three people were in the boat and they managed to get the boat to the dock and tied up before it became partially submerged,” Slack said.

A crew from the Bucks County Rescue Squad evaluated the boat’s owner at the scene, but the person did need treatment or a transport to a hospital.

A photo posted to Facebook show the boat almost entirely under water the borough’s docks along the river.

The Bristol, Bristol Consolidated, Goodwill Hose, and America Hose, Hook, and Ladder fire companies responded. The New Jersey State Police, which routinely has a patrol boat along the river, also provided assistance.

Slack said the scene was turned over to the Bristol Borough Police Department and the New Jersey State Police.
