A fast-moving blaze tore through a townhouse Wednesday morning and drew a large response from a dozen area fire companies.

Crews were dispatched at 7:40 a.m. for the report of a shed on fire behind a townhome in the 200 block of Tareyton Drive, according to Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry.
Upon pulling up, Farry found heavy flames coming from a townhouse situated at the end of a row.
The blaze quickly spread throughout the three-story home and into its attic, Farry said.

“There was heavy fire throughout all three levels of the house of origin,” the chief told LevittownNow.com.
The flames began to spread to a connected townhome before firefighters got a handle on them.
A landscaper working nearby spotted the flames and dialed 9-1-1.

The residents managed to escape the burning homes without injury.
Three cats were rescued from an adjoining unit, which also suffered minor fire damage, Farry said.
Crews remained on the scene to assist property owners in retrieving personal belongings from the damaged units.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania responded to the scene to provide assistance to the displaced residents.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Fire marshals from Newtown Township and Northampton Township are assisting Middletown Township authorities with the investigation.

In addition to the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, the Fairless Hills Fire Company, Levittown Fire Company No. 2, Lower Southampton Fire Company, Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Newportville Fire Company, Newtown Fire Rescue, Northampton Township Fire Department, Parkland Fire Company, Penndel Fire Company, William Penn Fire Company, and the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company responded. The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad also was at the scene.
