Bobby Braun opened his annual “Operation: Freedom Thunder” run to the community for the first time.

The event drew about two dozen participants for the 2.5-mile run.

Braun, who has completed the run individually for the past six or seven years, decided to invite the public this year to commemorate the country’s 250th birthday.

The group of runners and walkers of varying athletic abilities traveled a route that began opposite the historic Bolton Mansion in Bristol Township and proceeded to Five Points before it doubled back.

Participants showed up adorned in flags and American-themed attire.

“I’m trying to bring people together and celebrate the country for what it is,” Braun said.

The event was unsanctioned and featured no timing chips, awards, medals, or trophies. Braun required all participants to sign a liability waiver before taking part.

Braun said the gathering was strictly nonpartisan.

“It’s not meant to be a political event. This is about America,” Braun said.

Braun plans to open the event to others again next year.
