On Friday, the Bensalem Township-based chain will celebrate the first day of spring by offering free 6-ounce cups of its signature Italian ice to guests at all locations nationwide.

The company expects to serve approximately 1 million cups during the event.

Here’s a list of area Rita’s locations:

• 8621 New Falls Road, Levittown

The seasonal kickoff also marks the debut of a new collaboration with the marshmallow brand PEEPS.

Starting March 20, Rita’s is introducing a limited-time “Mystery PEEPS Italian Ice,” which is designed to mimic the sweetness of a PEEPS marshmallow but features a “secret flavor twist” hidden within a white Italian ice base.

In addition, Rita’s is adding a PEEPS Marshmallow Chick topper to its menu, which can be added to any treat.

From Friday, through Sunday, March 29, the company is hosting a national guessing contest centered on the mystery flavor.

Because the ice is served without a visible color cue, fans are encouraged to submit their flavor guesses at ritasice.com/peeps.

According to the company, five winners will be selected at random from the pool of correct entries. The prizes include free Rita’s Italian ice for a year and a Rita’s and PEEPS themed merchandise pack.

Rita’s was founded in Bensalem Township by former Philadelphia firefighter Bob Tumolo in 1984. Since its start, the brand has expanded globally and underwent a change in ownership. The investment firm Maple Park Capital Partners currently holds the majority growth investment in the company.
