State Sen. Frank Farry announced a student essay contest and is inviting high schoolers to join a statewide drive to mark the 250th anniversary of the country.

The competition is part of the America250PA celebration.
The winner from Farry’s Sixth Senatorial District will take part in a ceremonial session of the Pennsylvania Senate on May 5 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
“This milestone anniversary provides an important opportunity for students to reflect on our nation’s founding principles and their relevance today,” said Farry, a Republican. “I encourage students across our district to participate, share their perspectives and engage in this meaningful civic experience.”

The contest is open to students in grades 9-12 who reside in the Sixth Senatorial District.
To enter the contest, students must submit an essay of 250 to 500 words responding to the prompt: “Which Founding Father or historical figure from the Founding Era do you find most relatable to you or find most inspiring and why?”

A panel of community members, including historians, educators, and civic leaders, will review the entries through a blind judging process.
Criteria for the winning essay include historical insight and understanding of the chosen figure, personal connection and use of evidence, and organization and writing quality.
The selected student will attend the May 5 event in Philadelphia accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The ceremony is designed to highlight the commonwealth’s role in the nation’s founding while encouraging civic involvement among the youth.
Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 29, with the winner to be notified in early April.

Farry’s district includes the townships of Bensalem, Lower Southampton, Middletown, Northampton, Upper Southampton, Warminster, Warrington, Warwick, and Wrightstown. It also covers the boroughs of Hulmeville, Ivyland, Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, and Penndel.
