Firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of Red Cedar Drive in the Levittown section of Bristol Township just after 9:45 a.m.
Crews arrived to find smoke rising from the third floor of the three-story stone residence, which dates back to the 1700s, said Levittown Fire Company No. 2 Deputy Chief Ryan Flanagan.
The fire was first spotted by staff at the nearby Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad station on New Falls Road, according to Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito.

Flanagan said the blaze was located within the knee walls of the balloon-constructed dwelling.
Crews brought hose lines to the third floor of the home and opened up the walls to reach and extinguish the flames.

While the fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, the building sustained water damage across all three floors, Dippolito said.

Ladder and rescue companies assisted by venting the roof and placing ladders around the structure, Flanagan said.
All residents and pets were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported, the fire officials said.

Dippolito discovered the cause of the fire was faulty wiring located in a third-floor knee wall.
The fire marshal shared that the resident was alerted to the blaze by a working smoke detector, which he encourages all homes to have installed.
