U.S. Sen. John Fetterman was hospitalized Thursday after suffering a fall in which he hit his head, according to a statement from his office.

The senator, who has a history of health issues, is “doing well” but is staying at a Pittsburgh hospital for “routine observation” and to allow doctors to “fine-tune his medication regimen.”
The fall happened during a morning walk, his office said.
Fetterman became light-headed, causing him to fall and sustain “minor injuries.”

“Upon evaluation, it was established he had a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that led to Senator Fetterman feeling light-headed, falling to the ground and hitting his face with minor injuries,” the statement said.
“If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!” Fetterman said.

Fetterman’s hospitalization comes three years after he suffered a life-threatening stroke he had while serving as lieutenant governor and campaigning for the Senate in spring 2022.
The stroke required a hospital stay of more than a week and left him with an auditory processing disorder.
In 2023, after beginning his term in the Senate, he spent six weeks undergoing treatment for clinical depression.

Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, a Democrat, offered his support to the senator and his family.
Davis issued a statement saying he and the second lady were “glad to hear Senator Fetterman is receiving excellent care at a local hospital and hope he gets well soon. We send our love to Giselle, their children and the entire Fetterman family.”
