After more than 10 years of redevelopment and numerous delays, the Mill Run Angel Star health care facility in Bristol Borough is reportedly one step closer to opening.

The facility on Wilson Avenue has received borough occupancy permits for its first and second floors from Bristol Borough.
The long-anticipated project must still receive final approval from Pennsylvania authorities.
Councilmember Lorraine Cullen provided the update during the Monday council meeting.

The state-level approval remains the final step before the facility can begin operations.
“They’re waiting for the state to come through,” Cullen said. “It’s still going to be a while.”

The facility is set to hold elder-care and medical offices when it becomes fully operational.
Construction and renovation work on the 77,000-square-foot structure has been underway since 2016 by Philadelphia-based 1201 Wilson Acquisition, which is associated with Healthcare Stat Homecare.
Over the years, the developer has gutted most of the aging structure, installed new windows, improved the steel structure, and removed asbestos.

The slow pace of the renovation has previously drawn complaints from local officials and residents.
Bristol Borough and the Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County acquired the site in the early 2010s. They reached an agreement in 2015 to sell the property to the current owner, 1201 Wilson Acquisition, though the change in official ownership took place in 2020.

In 2015, borough council, school board, and county government approved granting the facility Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance, which will limit the taxes paid on the building until 2030.
An attorney for the owner had previously stated the facility would open in 2018, 2019, and 2023.

The site was once the site of Harriman Hospital, which opened in the early 1900s. It later became Bristol General Hospital, then Delaware Valley Hospital, before the facility, which included a five-story addition from the late 1960s, moved in 1981 to Oxford Valley Road in Falls Township.
For years, the building was the Mill Run assisted living center, which closed due to financial difficulties in January 2008.
