Construction is underway on the new Bristol Township Senior Center, a project officials have called a “transformative project” for the municipality.

The new senior center will be approximately 10,000 square feet and is being built adjacent to the current facility at the Bristol Township Municipal Complex on Bath Road. The current senior center building will eventually house a fire station for the township’s career firefighters.

Ground was broken last September on the $8 million project, which will replace the current facility, which has been in use for many years.
State Rep. Tina Davis, a Democrat, and Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick helped secure funding for the project. Davis secured $2 million in state funds, and Fitzpatrick a $4 million federal grant.

Township Manager Randee Mazur explained last September that the municipality was able to save some money by starting the project sooner.

The current senior center is one of the busiest in the county, offering numerous programs for people ages 55 and older.

Once the new building is complete and the senior center has moved, the old building will be converted into a fire station.
Last year, Bristol Township Fire Rescue Chief and Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said last year that his department is operating out of a former pole barn and has limited space.
Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to clarify that the fire station will be converted from the current senior center.
