Crews Quickly Control Heavy Fire At Levittown Home

A home was badly damaged in a Wednesday evening fire in Bristol Township’s Levittown section.

Firefighters were dispatched to the home in the unit block of Balsam Road at 7:19 p.m.

Bristol Township police and Levittown Fire Company No. 2 Chief Chris Shortt arrived to find heavy fire from the rear of the Levitt-built residence.

“There was an initial report of people trapped,” Shortt said, adding it turned out to be the homeowner attempting to put down the flames.

Firefighters got to work and were able to place the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, Shortt said.

The majority of the fire was held to the rear of the dwelling, the chief said.

The homeowner suffered smoke inhalation, but was not transported to the hospital, officials said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania responded and assisted the residents with temporary housing, the fire marshal said.

Volunteers from the Red Cross were assisting seven people displaced from the home, said spokesperson Alana Mauger.

In addition to Levittown Fire Company No. 2, the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department, Croydon Fire Company, Edgely Fire Company, and Third District Fire Company assisted. The Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad also responded.
