Bristol Twp. Breaks Ground On New Senior Center & Fire Station

Ground was broken last Monday morning for a new Bristol Township Senior Center and a fire station for the township’s career firefighters.

The groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of what officials have called a “transformative project” at the Bristol Township Municipal Complex on Bath Road, which includes the township building and police station, community park, and other services.

The new Bristol Township Senior Center will span approximately 10,000 square feet and will be built adjacent to the existing facility.

Work is expected to begin within days and completion is expected next year.

“We worked with the senior center staff and reimagined the center to serve current and future needs of our seniors,” Township Manager Randee Mazur said.

State Rep. Tina Davis, a Democrat, and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican, played pivotal roles in funding the $8 million project by securing $2 million in state funds and a $4 million federal grant.

While the project has been in the works for several years, Mazur said the township saved some money starting the project this year.

Bonnie Worth, who runs the Bristol Township Senior Center, thanked the officials for their work in getting the new center funded.

The senior center is among the busiest in the county and offers a number of programs for people ages 55 and above. The current facility is many years old and a replacement has been talked about for several years.

Bristol Township Council President Craig Bowen said he is looking forward to the new senior center and fire station, noting the need for both.

“We paved the roads, built new playgrounds, did stormwater, and these are the projects we need to complete,” Bowen said.

“This is a great day for Bristol Township,” Bowen said at the groundbreaking.

Bristol Township Fire Rescue Chief and Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said his department is currently operating out of what was a pole barn and the space is limited.

The firefighters are going to update and rework the current senior center for their needs, including the emergency management office.

The building will also have four garage bays added to accommodate the career fire department and their gear.

“This is going to carry the fire service, office of fire marshal, and office of emergency management many years into the future,” Dippolito said.

Bowen said the fire rescue building is being designed to also have room for equipment space for volunteer fire companies if it is needed.

The township recently wrapped up renovations to the former Inspire Federal Credit Union building next to the community park. The building is being used by the parks and recreation department to host programs.
