Bristol Township police on patrol discovered the fire at a home in the 1600 block of Lakeland Avenue shortly after 1:15 a.m., according to officials.
Third District Fire Company Chief Howard McGoldrick said he arrived to find heavy fire coming from the rear of the two-story, single-family home.
A large dog initially blocked firefighters’ access to the yard, but police were able to corral the animal behind a truck to allow crews to enter, McGoldrick said.

Firefighters conducted what McGoldrick described as a “very aggressive” search of all floors, but no people were found inside.

The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, McGoldrick said.

No people were injured in the blaze.
Firefighters rescued two dogs, snakes, lizards, birds and a turtle. A cat and a parrot died from smoke inhalation, McGoldrick said.
Bucks County Rescue Squad paramedics used a pet oxygen mask in an attempt to revive the cat, but were unsuccessful, according to the chief.

“This is the second time this month pet oxygen masks were used in Bristol Township. We will do everything we can to rescue and save pets,” McGoldrick said.
Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said he is still investigating the cause of the blaze.

The fire started in the rear vestibule area of the home.
In addition to the Third District Fire Company, the Newportville, Croydon, Edgely, Levittown No. 2, American Hook Hose and Ladder, and William Penn fire companies assisted at the scene. Bristol Township Fire Police also responded.
