The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors last month awarded a contract for the South Flowers Mill drainage project.

The project will tackle the road deterioration and related problems plaguing the area, Township Engineer Isaac Kessler has said.

Following a bidding process, the board voted to hire N Abbonizio Contractors Inc. for the project. The company’s bid was $164,550.

The cost aligns closely with the township’s budget expectations for the work, officials said.

The project involves the installation of new stormwater pipes and other improvements designed to redirect water flow towards a nearby culvert and creek near the Eastern Auto Parts Warehouse.

Tyler Williams, an engineer from Remington and Vernick Engineers, indicated that the project’s start is expected in April.

After completion of the drainage improvements, the township has plans to undertake the repaving of the roadway. Contracts for that work will be awarded later this spring.

Middletown Township received nine bids in total for the stormwater project.

N Abbonizio Contractors Inc. emerged as the second lowest bidder and was awarded the project because the lowest bidder was ultimately disqualified due to non-compliance with the township’s responsible contractor ordinance requirements, Williams said.
