A peaceful Saturday morning took a terrifying turn for Sonya Hansen and her 9-year-old grandson as they were carjacked at gunpoint while on their way to church, setting off a chain of events that led to a triple homicide.

Just past 8:50 a.m., Hansen was approached by a man, who was later identified by police as 26-year-old Andre Gordon Jr. He brandished a gun as Hansen was on Southard Street in Trenton.
Fearing for her and her grandson’s safety, Hansen surrendered her silver 2013 Nissan to Gordon.
“Thank God we were on our way to church and he didn’t kill us, because he could have shot us,” Hansen recounted to reporters on Saturday evening.

She was visibly shaken by the ordeal.

Trenton police said in court papers that they searched the area but did not find the Nissan or Gordon.

The carjacking, according to police, was only the beginning of a violent spree by Gordon.
Authorities said that after taking Hansen’s car from Trenton, Gordon drove to the Levittown section of Falls Township.
Around 9 a.m., he fatally shot three people: his stepmother, his teenage sister, and the mother of his children at two different locations, police said.

After the shootings, Gordon abandoned the stolen Nissan and proceeded to carjack a 44-year-old man at gunpoint outside a Dollar General store on Old Bristol Pike, police said.
Gordon ended up fleeing in the stolen Honda CRV and returning back to Trenton, kicking off an hours-long hunt.

Hansen, who had been interviewed by detectives in New Jersey and Bucks County, expressed her upsetment over the crimes.
“I was so worried and really nervous. I didn’t want anything to happen,” she said.
