Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn told reporters Justin Mohn, 33, shot his dad dead before decapitating him with a knife and machete inside the family’s home at 145 Upper Orchard Drive in Middletown Township’s Levittown section.

Mohn, a 2014 Penn State graduate, had “no history of diagnosed mental health issues” or mental health commitments, Schorn said.

The district attorney said Mohn purchased the Sig Sauer 9mm handgun used to shoot his dad legally the day before the killing at a shop in Bristol Township. She added that gun laws made it legal to purchase and obtain the firearm.

After decapitating his father – 68-year-old Michael Mohn, a semi-retired U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee – the 33-year-old man filmed a 14-minute YouTube video where he displayed the bloody head and ranted about the federal government. He called for the killing government employees, complained about certain groups of people, and made other troubling statements. He also declared himself the president and said some people believe he is the Messiah.

The video was posted early Tuesday evening approximately an hour before Mohn’s mother, Denise, walked inside to find the bloody scene, including her husband’s body and head in different rooms, authorities said.

In the video, Mohn said he killed his father because he was a 20-year government employee.

LevittownNow.com reported earlier this week, Mohn had previously recorded a song complaining his dad was jealous of him.

Middletown Township Chief of Police Joseph Bartorilla said his department had two prior contacts with Mohn and a call last year from his then-employer in Philadelphia. The employer had concerns about Mohn’s behavior at work and asked for legal advice.

The chief said the prior contacts were for an argument with someone outside his parents house in 2011 and a 2019 report Mohn made that a former employer had allegedly threatened him.

Officers did not have enough to file charges in any of the incidents, and the 2022 call from Mohn’s then-employer did not include allegations of a crime, Bartorilla said.

In the video since deleted from YouTube, Mohn implied he had a past interaction with the FBI.

Schorn said she could not comment if Mohn had been on the radar of federal authorities.

Schorn stated Mohn was “acting with a clear mind” when he allegedly killed his dad.

Mohn turned in his medical marijuana card before purchasing the gun, Schorn said.

Authorities said Mohn was located at Fort Indiantown Gap, a Pennsylvania National Guard training center two hours from Levittown, about two hours after police began looking for him. He was driving his dad’s white Toyota, had scaled the base’s barbed wire fence, and was armed when base police and state troopers arrested him without incident.

When addressing reporters, Schorn said Mohn told investigators he went to the base to gather support for a revolution. He also wanted to speak with Gov. Josh Shapiro. The alleged killer was reportedly attempting to get the guardsmen and Shapiro to “join forces” with him.

In his video, Mohn, who claimed to lead a militia, said while he wanted President Joe Biden and other top federal officials captured and killed, he desired to have the nation’s governors join his perceived movement to overthrow the federal government.

Authorities on Friday declined to comment if Mohn had any connections to militias or anti-government groups.

Schorn did not wish to address questions on how long Mohn had planned the killing.

Law enforcement sources told this news organization that the FBI and U.S. Marshal Service have been involved in the investigation.

Schorn did confirm that the U.S. Marshal Service did respond to secure a federal official Mohn threatened in the video. Per the video transcript, Mohn threatened and gave the address for a federal judge who resides in Montgomery County.

Mohn was unemployed, but he previously had worked in Philadelphia. In years past, he worked for a credit union, Progressive Insurance, and as a contractor for Microsoft in Colorado, according to authorities and court records.
