The man accused of beheading his father and posting a threat-filled video to YouTube earlier this week appears to have suffered a years-long downfall that led to this week’s homicide.

Since Tuesday night, LevittownNow.com has spoken with several people who were classmates of 33-year-old Justin Mohn, of Middletown Township’s Levittown section, and knew him.

The connections to Mohn were verified by this news organization, but those who spoke declined to have their names published due to the nature of the crime and the international attention it has attracted.

Mohn has been held in the Bucks County Correctional Center on murder and related charges since Wednesday morning. Bail was denied in the case.

A number of people who knew Mohn in high school said they were shocked by his actions and did not expect him to commit violence.

“People post stuff online that’s screwed up, but you don’t expect them to cut their dad’s head off and YouTube it,” one said.

Another former classmate said she knew Mohn from several courses at the Middletown Township high school and thought he had a juvenile sense of humor.

“He wasn’t the most popular kid in NHS, but he didn’t threaten anyone,” she said, calling him “geeky.”

Three classmates said Mohn got in better shape and bulked up over the short span of time in high school.

One said Mohn went from a “small, scrawny, goof ball, immature type to confident/dickish.”

Another, who knew Mohn and had met his parents, said they noticed the change in his body and demeanor. They noted Mohn remained reserved throughout high school.

“I would never think he would do that. How can someone do that to their dad? Who would post it to the internet?” they said.

One former classmate said Mohn was “normal high school boy weird,” but that he appeared to have changed during college.

“Once we were in college, a couple of high school friends would periodically send me Facebook statuses or blog posts or his bio for his book and they were INCREASINGLY bizarre and conspiratorial,” the classmate added.

Several classmates said Mohn’s Facebook posts in recent years focused on conspiracy content involving the federal government. Some mentioned posts about corruption he perceived was being committed by FBI Director Christopher Wray and other government leaders.

One former friend summed up the posts they saw from Mohn this way: “Justin posted the government was full of corruption and conspiracy BS. People say his video was full of right-wing conspiracy postings, but I don’t think he was a full Trump MAGA bro. He obviously needed help and, I think, that all that conspiracy stuff on the internet, the stuff the MAGA influencers say, and the people that do the conspiracy YouTube channels pushed him more into whatever caused him to snap.”

“He didn’t trust the government, but I don’t think he was a hardcore Republican or Democrat. Justin was someone who needed treatment, but the conspiracy stuff had to inspire the books he was posting on Amazon and the video where he held up his dad’s head,” they added.

Mohn was a 2014 graduate of Penn State for business management and moved to Colorado for several years before moving back in with his parents.

A resident who lives in the same neighborhood as Mohn told LevittownNow.com he knew Mohn through friends in high school. He added he recently saw Mohn walking around the neighborhood and sometimes carrying items he purchased at a store.

Several neighbors gave similar accounts to other news organizations.

For the first time since Tuesday night, authorities are expected to address journalists about the case on Friday. The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office and Middletown Township police will be joined by an official from the FBI.
