In a recent press release, troopers said receiving stolen property charges were filed against five local teens who were found to have been in a stolen vehicle that crashed and then fled.

Late last year, LevittownNow.com reported on the incident, but it was unclear at that time if the teens were going to be charged.

The name of the teens was not released due to the fact they were minors. The juvenile justice system works differently than the system for adults or teens charged as adults.

In a December statement, troopers revealed they determined a 17-year-old boy from Bristol was driving the stolen 2019 Kia Soul and a 16-year-old Levittown boy, a 17-year-old Levittown boy, a 16-year-old Bristol boy, and a 16-year-old boy from Bristol Township’s Croydon section were all passengers.

The stolen Kia was to blame for the crash that happened on I-95 northbound in Bensalem Township over the Christmas holiday weekend, troopers said.

Troopers said the crash was determined to be a hit-and-run wreck between the Kia and a 2023 Tesla Model Y.

The Tesla was traveling on the center lane of I-95 northbound when the Kia passed it, nearly striking another car and hitting the Tesla in the rear bumper, state police said.

The Kia failed to stay at the crash scene and fled northbound on I-95, troopers said.

Although the Kia fled, troopers were able to get “specific details” on the Kia that helped in their investigation, according to the press release.

The Kia suffered damage to its right front bumper and tire. It was located abandoned about a mile from the crash site on the shoulder, troopers said.
