A spokesperson for Checkers confirmed the restaurant at 399 Route 13 is opening on Tuesday, January 23.

The new location with a drive-thru is owned and operated by experienced restaurateur, Milin Patel.

“I am confident in the potential for the brand to thrive in this new market,” said Patel. “Checkers is a strategic addition to my portfolio and the community, generating job opportunities and flavorful food offerings to the Croydon region.”

Patel began working in the food industry with Dunkin’ Donuts in 1998 and quickly was made a store manager. His venture into franchise operations began with opening a Checkers drive-in in Philadelphia and has since led to his operation of multiple Checkers franchises. In 2020, Patel ventured into real estate, the company said.

Robert Bhagwandat, senior director of franchise development at Checkers, praised Patel’s expertise and dedication to the brand.

“With a proven track record and internal industry insights, Milin embodies a visionary franchise operator dedicated to the brand and its growth,” said Bhagwandat. “We look forward to the opening of the new Croydon restaurant.”

The new Croydon location is an updated prototype for Checkers and features a fresh look and a simplified operating model.

The site was previously home to several banks including Wells Fargo, Fidelity Bank, First Union, Wachovia, and Farmers National Bank of Bucks County before being transformed into the new fast food eatery.

Checkers operated a location at the corner of Woodbourne and Bristol Oxford Valley roads in the Levittown section of Middletown Township, but that location closed in 2013.

Merged in 1999 to form one concept, Checkers and co-brand Rally’s primarily operates through a franchise model that makes up 800 locations across the country.
