Coroner: Man Found Dead In Delaware River Jumped From Bridge

The remains found in the Delaware River in Falls Township last week by a boater belonged to a missing New Jersey man, an official said Tuesday.

The remains were located last Tuesday evening during low tide along the Delaware River near where Biles Creek and the river meet. The body was discovered on the west side of the tidal pool between the Delaware River and the creek, police said.

Bucks County Coroner Meredith Buck on Tuesday said the body was identified as that of Zachary Lobato, 24, of Hamilton, New Jersey.

Lodato had been missing since January 27 out of New Jersey.

Buck said Lodato was confirmed to be the person witnesses spotted jump from the Lower Trenton Bridge (Trenton Makes Bridge) upstream from where the body was located on January 27, the same day he went missing.

“Preliminary autopsy findings revealed evidence of prolonged water immersion and no obvious signs of trauma. Cause and manner of death are pending further investigation and final autopsy report,” the coroner’s office said in a statement.

A law enforcement source told LevittownNow.com police on both sides of the river where aware a person had jumped from Trenton Makes Bridge in late January, but they were unable to locate the body at the time.

Falls Township police and the Falls Township, Morrisville, and Tullytown fire companies, along with the Trenton Fire Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Falls Township Fire Marshal’s office, assisted with the recovery of Lobato’s remains.
