Just past 1:30 a.m. Saturday, fire crews were dispatched to the Penn Community Bank at the corner of Highland Park Way and Highland Park Place for an alarm system.

Sam Simon, Penndel Fire Company’s deputy chief, said crews arrived to find the bank filled with smoke and upgraded the call to a building fire, summoning additional firefighters.

Crews searched the circa-1960 bank building and checked to see where the moderate smoke condition was coming from. After some time, smoke and soot was located emanating from an electrical panel in the basement, Simon said.

PECO arrived and secured the power to the building as crews made sure it was not on fire.

Simon said neighbors reported power issues leading up to the incident at the bank building.

The building reported smoke and soot damage throughout.

In addition to the Penndel Fire Company, the Fairless Hills, Langhorne-Middletown, Newtown, and William Penn fire companies responded.
