Bucks Countians with dogs are now able to purchase their state-required 2023 dog licenses from Treasurer Kris Ballerini’s office.

Ballerini’s office said state law requires dog owners must purchase a license for all pooches older than three months.

The 2023 dog licenses can be purchased by clicking here.

The county treasurer’s office said the online purchasing portal is through a new vendor, Fairfield Computer Services. The new system looks different than past years.

“The new software enables our office to issue licenses more quickly and with lower overhead costs to the taxpayer,” said Ballerini. “The staff time required to distribute licenses is significantly decreased since migrating to the new platform.”

“Dogs are eligible for a lifetime license if they have a microchip that was implanted or verified by a veterinarian. Lifetime licenses cost $51.50, or $31.50 for dogs that are spayed or neutered. As with annual licenses, discounts are available to senior citizens and persons with disabilities,” according to the county treasurer’s office.

“According to state law, owners may face a fine of up to $300 for unlicensed dogs. Ballerini said that the county issued approximately 27,500 licenses last year, though the actual number of dogs in Bucks County is likely much higher,” the office said in a statement.

Dog license sales revenue is split between the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement and the Bucks County Treasurer’s office, which receives a $1 commission for each annual license sold.

The state’s Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement is in charge of enforcing kennel licensing and inspections, looking into dog bite incidents, and giving money to humane organizations to build facilities for controlling dogs.
