The plan would be for the trail to run from the Neshaminy Creek to State Road, with connections to other trails and proposed bicycle lanes.
Zhenya Nalywayko, a regional program coordinator for the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, said the goal would be connect the River Road trail to Bristol Borough and the existing Bristol Spurline Trail.
The River Road trail would be part of the East Coast Greenway, which is a 3,000-mile pedestrian and bicycle route that runs between Maine and Florida.

In Lower Bucks County, the East Coast Greenway runs through Bensalem Township, Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Falls Township, Morrisville Borough, and Tullytown Borough. The route is along the Delaware Canal State Park towpath from Morrisville Borough through Bristol Borough and moves to roadways in Bristol Township.
Emily Paskowitz, an engineer with Gilmore Associates, said one of the missions is to not just make the trail a pass-through for the East Coast Greenway, but to have it be used often by local residents.

Nalywayko said grants had mostly funded planning work so far.
Field surveys were recently completed and design and engineering is getting underway.
The River Road trail would run adjacent to the road and would be owned by Bristol Township.

Kris Kern, the Heritage Conservancy’s resource protection director, said the River Road trail would be tied in with the organization’s Croydon Woods site.
Once plans are drawn up for the proposed trail, the township will look at the plans.

More community outreach and events are planned to discuss the project with locals, Nalywayko said.
Supporters thanked township council and officials for their effort to assist with the creation of the trail.
