Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.1 percent in February, according to state data released Friday.
Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry data confirmed that the commonwealth’s February 2022 unemployment rate is 3.8 percent below its January 2022 level, and 2.2 percentage points below its February 2021 unemployment rate.
Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped by two-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 3.8 percent, a 37.2 percent decrease since February 2021.

In February 2020, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the national unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics.
The department reports that Pennsylvania has recovered approximately 82 percent of jobs lost due to the pandemic.

The trade, transportation & utilities sector, which increased by 19,200 jobs, set a record high of 1,155,700 jobs.
