A homeowner and his dog avoided injury in a Sunday afternoon blaze in Bristol Township’s Croydon section.
Firefighters were called at 4:12 p.m. to the 800 block of Sixth Avenue for a reported dwelling fire.

Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon said he arrived to find flames coming from a back bedroom and extending to the second floor.
The home is two stories and has a raised subbasement to prevent flooding.
Firefighters held the fire in check and placed it under control by 4:41 p.m., Tryon said.

A resident was home, saw the smoke outside their bedroom, grabbed his dog, and ran outside, the chief said.
No injuries were reported to firefighters.
PECO crews rushed to the fire scene and disconnected power to the burning home.

The home suffered serious fire and heat damage due to the incident, Tryon said.
The blaze started in the area of a power strip in the rear bedroom, Bristol Township Deputy Fire Marshal Alex DelVecchio said.
The chief commended the responding crews for their quick response to the call.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania is assisting the resident, DelVecchio said.
In addition to the Croydon Fire Company, Bensalem Volunteer, Edgely, Levittown No. 2, Newportville, and the Third District fire companies responded.
