A Middletown Township police vehicle was struck by a train following a pursuit.
Last Friday around 11:15 p.m., an officer was checking on a “suspicious occupied vehicle” parked at the Chesterfield Apartments in the Levittown section of the township.

“I observed a male sitting in the back seat of the vehicle with a female with her head down in the area of his lap. As I approached the vehicle, I observed the female sit up abruptly and the male occupant appear to shuffle around his pants,” an officer wrote in court papers.
Police said the officer detected a “strong odor” of raw leafy marijuana from inside the vehicle.
The man was identified as Hussein Mahmoud Adam, 21, of Bensalem Township. The female was identified as a 16 year old, police said.

Adam, according to police, handed the officer a bag containing a green leafy substance after he was asked about the smell of marijuana.
While the officer was back at his patrol vehicle confirming the information provided by Adam, the 21 year old got in his vehicle’s driver’s seat and sped off at a high rate of speed, police said.

The officer recalled in court papers that Adam drove in the wrong direction disregarded traffic signals and stop signs. The chase allegedly went on Durham Road, East Lincoln Highway, Hulmeville Road, and ended up in the area of the Langhorne Train Station.
Police said Adam turned onto the train tracks at the station, losing control and crashing. The vehicle was left sitting across two active train tracks.
Adam fled on foot as the officer parked along the train tracks and then chased the man on foot, police said.

Adam was captured by officers after running across East Lincoln Highway near the Mill Creek Apartments in Penndel Borough, police said.
While Adam was being arrested, the police vehicle parked along the tracks was struck by a CSX train which was unable to stop in time, authorities said.

Adam was arraigned by on-call District Judge Corryn Kronnagel last Saturday morning on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, risking catastrophe, reckless endangerment, corruption of minors, possession of a controlled substance, and use/possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed in lieu of 10 percent of $150,000.
