Two days after the race was called for incumbent Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick by the Associated Press, Democratic challenger Christina Finello conceded.

In a statement, Finello campaign said the vote counts showed there was not a path to victory.

“I got into this race to be a fighter. A fighter for Pennsylvanians who deserve affordable healthcare. A fighter for our families and economy struggling through this pandemic. A fighter for the people of Bucks and Montgomery County, where I have grown up and who have given me so much. While I won’t be heading to Washington, I won’t stop fighting for these priorities and our communities. I wish Brian Fitzpatrick well in his third term and thank all of the volunteers and staff who made this campaign a reality. It was a real team effort and the privilege of a lifetime. I couldn’t have done it without you all, and hope I made you proud,” the Democrat from Ivyland Borough said in statement.

With the vast majority of votes counted, Fitzpatrick had 243,848 votes and Finello had 186,014 in the First Congressional District, which is made up of all of Bucks County and a portion of Montgomery County, as of early Friday evening.

Fitzpatrick, a former FBI special agent who lives in Middletown Township, has framed himself as a moderate who is independent. He often has touted his work with the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.

Finello battled low name recognition within the district, limited support early on, and campaigning in the age of COVID-19.

Fitzpatrick has been pretty silent on his victory. His campaign has not released a statement and only posted the Associated Press projection on their Facebook page.
