Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro will remain in his seat.

Statewide with the majority of the votes counted, Shapiro had 50.46 percent of the vote, Republican challenger Heather Heidelbaugh had 46.75 percent, Green Party candidate Richard L. Weiss had 1.03 percent, and Libertarian candidate Daniel Wassmer had 1.76 percent.
With the majority of votes in Bucks County tallied as of Friday afternoon, Shapiro had 194,400 votes to Heidelbaugh’s 177,023 votes. Weiss had 3,382 votes and Wassmer had 6,413 votes.
Shapiro won four years ago and took over the after after disgraced Democratic former Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s time in office ended after her conviction for fraud.

Shapiro, the state’s top law enforcement official, led the agency as the office rebuilt its clout following Kane. He also oversaw a 2008 grand jury report that uncovered rampant sexual abuse of kids by Catholic priests within Pennsylvania. Additionally, Shapiro was at the helm of several lawsuits that challenged the Trump administration. Leading up to the election, Shapiro has been in the media nationally as he has called for a fair election.

Heidelbaugh said during the campaign that she has years more experience in courtroom than Shapiro. She also promised to keep “our communities safe, our kids off drugs, and our seniors secure.”
“Pennsylvania, it is the honor of my life to serve as your Attorney General. I’m grateful and ready to keep taking on the big fights as the peopleโs AG,” Shapiro said in a statement.
