Levittown-area businesses and nonprofits were able to retain more than 13,600 jobs using federal Paycheck Protection Program loans.
The jobs numbers – broken down by mailing addresses of the employers – largely came from for-profit companies of all types, including manufacturers, restaurants, law firms, medical offices, construction companies, and technology firms. The data doesn’t provide a full accounting of all jobs retained due to the PPP loans. Some data is blank or lists the number of jobs retained at 0. The accounting also only includes information on employers who received $150,000 or more.
The numbers were released this week by U.S. Treasury Department and Small Business Administration after pressure from Congress and news outlets.

Loans of $150,000 or more accounted for less than 50 percent of borrowers but 75 percent of loan dollars approved, according to the SBA.
The loans designed for small business, as they are defined by the federal government, were to be used up to 60 percent for payroll costs and the rest could be put toward rent, utility costs, and mortgages to be eligible to be forgiven. However, nonprofits were able to apply for loans.

The PPP loan program was passed in the early days of the pandemic as part of a massive economic aid package. The federal government has said more than 5 million loans have been distributed.
Working with bankers, organizations were able apply for PPP loans. Loan amounts could go as high as $10 million. A total of $20 billion in loans were approved in Pennsylvania.
Southeastern Holding LLC, of Bristol, was the only Levittown-area company to receive a loan between $5 million and $10 million. The company reported retaining 444 jobs.
