The former president and treasurer of a parent teacher organization (PTO) has been sentenced to pay back close to $6,000 and probation.

Cheryl A. Fox-Brito, 37, of Lower Makefield, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning before Bucks County Judge Jeffrey Finley to a single count of receiving stolen property. The plea was part of a negotiated deal.

Finley sentenced Fox-Brito to four years probation and $5,934.09 in restitution. If Brito does not violate her probation and pays back the full amount within two years, her probation can be terminated early.

Fox-Brito served the Walt Disney Elementary School PTO between 2014 and 2018. During that time, she was behind the misappropriation of  $5,934.09, authorities said.

“Cheryl Brito took responsibility for her mistakes in order to move on as a great mother and community member. Ironically, she contributed hundreds of hours of her time and thousands of her own money to help the PTO. These oversights to which she plead guilty will be resolved,” said Paul Lang, Fox-Brito’s attorney,

In October 2018, Bucks County Detectives interviewed Fox-Brito. She reportedly said she had a personal account at the same bank as the PTO used and must have “inadvertently” confused the cards when making cash withdrawals and charges. In addition, she stated a similar snafu happened with her Amazon Prime account.

The investigation started in September 2018 after the Tullytown school’s principal contacted detectives about possible misappropriation of PTO funds.
