A long-blighted property in Bristol Township’s Levittown section has been knocked down.
Demolition crews took to the ivy-covered home at 9 Mallow Lane starting on Tuesday.

The process to take down the uninhabitable home that has been vacant for years took several years.
The Redevelopment Authority of Bucks County (RDA), which is working with Bristol Township to revive blighted properties, said the process to clear the home was “delayed significantly” due to the home’s title being held by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
RDA Executive Director Jeff Darwak said Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick’s office worked with his organization and Bristol Township to obtain authority to remove the home and facilitate redevelopment.

The goal, according to the RDA, is to get blighted properties back on the tax rolls.
The Levittown property is the 17th one acquired by the RDA as part of Bristol Township’s blight program that kicked off in 2016.

Once the demolition is completed, the residential property will be open for redevelopment.
Township Manager Bill McCauley said the demolition was a direct result of the partnership on the blight program.
The chairman of the RDA, Sean Schafer, heralded the demolition as a way the Bristol Borough-based group can partner with communities to reduce blight.

The blight program in the township has rejuvenated a number of eyesore properties throughout the township and encourages absentee owners to repair their lots. The program, township officials said last year, is self-sustaining through the sale of blighted properties that are condemned.
