Post Office Opens Mobile Retail Unit In Croydon

The U.S. Post Office has deployed a mobile unit to the site of the fire-damaged storefront branch in Bristol Township’s Croydon section.

The postal service retail mobile unit opened Monday in the Croydon Shopping Center along Route 13, U.S. Postal Service spokesman Ray Daiutolo Sr. told LevittownNow.com.

The mobile post office will offer retail products and services to residents and can complete transactions using a cellular router, Daiutolo explained.

The mobile office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Saturdays, the unit will be open from 10 a.m. to noon.

The mobile post office comes more than three months after a fire damaged the laundromat, the Post Office, and Sarappo’s Pizza, which operates a second Bensalem location. The Post Office has had its windows boarded up, but the fire damage to the leased space was reportedly not very serious.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican, wrote a letter to the postmaster general last month asking what the plan was for the closed Post Office.

Fitzpatrick’s office on Monday released a letter from the postmaster’s office that stated the mobile unit was going to be put in place. The letter also said postal officials are working with the landlord to determine the repair timeline.

“This is welcome news from the United States Postal Service. While the closure of the Croydon Post Office has temporarily disrupted service for local residents and small businesses, I am confident that this temporary facility will mitigate further interruption, especially with the holiday season upon us,” Fitzpatrick said in a statement. “I am thankful to Postmaster Brennan and her staff for their attention and prompt response to this matter. We will continue to closely monitor the status of repairs.”

Since the Post Office has been closed, Croydon residents have been using a postal branch that is two miles away in Bensalem or the Bristol Borough location, which is a roughly four-mile drive.
